Driving in Your Car

Driving in your car
A gray, cold, New Jersey day
We sat in silence

I just had a random flash of a memory about a business trip to New Jersey where a coworker, a client, and I rode together to the hotel. It was a quiet 30ish-minute drive . . . we were all tired after a big night on the town in New York City.

In Memory of Patches

Heartbreaking moment
She held her cat lovingly
Life left its body

My friend and college roommate lost her pet cat, Patches, yesterday. Patches died at a ripe, old age of 15ish. Alison and I both had cats when we roomed together. Sadie died a few years ago, and now we lost Patches. I know some people think it's dorky to grieve over a pet, but these pets were our friends . . . and they were a source of fun and funny stories of our time we lived together in college.

Hear the Joyful Noise

Hear the joyful noise
Bells ringing in harmony
Sweet, sacred music

I was walking the dog today around my quiet apartment complex, and we heard the local Catholic church's bells chiming songs. It was very nice.

In Memoriam - Charlton Heston

Good Bye TaylorImage by TCM Hitchhiker via FlickrAn Oscar winner
A peanut butter lover
A film legend gone

Mr. Heston was the bomb in Planet of the Apes. Any guy who gets to say, "Take your stinking paws off me, you damn, dirty ape" with such authority and realism has to be the bomb.

By the way, I found several stories that he was very proud to be a member of the Peanut Butter Lovers Hall of Fame. A man after peanut butter is a man after my own heart.

Lovers Dance

Crickets whisper songs
Lovers dance under moonlight
On dew-speckled grass

Have you ever read "A Valediction Forbidding Mourning" by John Donne? Whenever I hear poetry or songs that reference moon/moonlight and love, I think of this poem. I remember these stanzas that say,

Dull sublunary lovers' love
—Whose soul is sense—cannot admit
Of absence, 'cause it doth remove
The thing which elemented it.

But we by a love so much refined,
That ourselves know not what it is,
Inter-assurèd of the mind,
Care less, eyes, lips and hands to miss.

I think this means that his love with his wife, the person for whom this poem was written, is transcendent and spiritual (the second stanza) while other "dull sublunary lovers" (those attached to earthly things - literally means "under the moon") grow melancholy and sad when separated from their lover's physical body.

Anyway . . . that's what I had on my mind after writing this.

Young Love

Plucking white petals
"She loves me, she loves me not"
His young heart blooms

I have a lot of flower imagery in my mind lately . . . I guess because so many fragrant and beautiful flowers are blooming right now here in my home state of Florida.
