September 11 . . . A Memory

Like broken-winged doves
Papers dropped from New York skies
Terrified, we watched

I remember watching the news on this date seven years ago. For some reason, I always remember the image of papers flying down from the buildings after the planes hit. Maybe because it was the least tragic and terrifying thing to look at during those news casts.

Although I knew no one personally who perished that day, it affected me very deeply. The breath is knocked out of me every year on this date when I remember the loss, sacrifice, and terror people experienced in New York, Washington, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and nationwide.
